"Oddly Satisfying" was a course taught jointly with Charlotte Hornung in the screen printing studio at UdK Berlin in the winter semester of 2023/2024. We examined destructive ASMR videos: Bottles and jars are rolled down marble staircases, stuffed toys and watermelons are squashed in hydraulic presses, balloons are popped with complicated contraptions. Why is watching people breaking things so fascinating? We asked students to deliberately damage or break pieces of material culture. They then used the fragments and forms as a starting point for the (con-)fabulation of graphic narrative sequences, which were turned into seven zines screen printed in bright green and ultramarine blue.
